The Lung Function Supplements That Must Be Part Of Your List

By Janine Hughes

The lungs have a primary role in life, just as important as the heart, the brain, and other vital organs. In fact, the easiest way to cut off life from any living organism is to interfere with airflow into the lungs. Generally, they are used to enrich the blood with oxygen rich air and clear the poisonous carbon dioxide from the tissues. The air breathed in sometimes consists of pollutants; particularly the smog, smoke and other chemicals. This greatly hinders its optimal functioning, and can sometimes cause a total breakdown leading to bacterial infections and other infections like influenza and asthma. In order to counter this, lung function supplements have been developed to promote its optimal operation.

The most effective and commonly used natural supplement is the mullein. It has been used for centuries, and has active ingredients that are said to effectively fight bacteria and influenza that causes infections in the respiratory tissues. It has also been used to treat bronchitis and asthma, among other respiratory diseases. It is approved by the FDA as a safe food additive.

Normally, it is taken as a tea or in the form of supplement. In order to make tea, one tablespoon of dried leaves of mullein is mixed with one cup of boiling water and then steeped for not less than 10 minutes and then strained. In case it is for treating any of the respiratory diseases, then 2-3 cups per day is good.

The other remedy used as a supplement is the horebound. It has been used to manufacture candies and lozenges for centuries that are used to manage cough. Extracts of this plant are also used to manage sore throat, asthma, common cold, and many other respiratory infections.

The Elecampane has also been used to cleanse the lungs and other respiratory organs for years. It also has a very powerful antiseptic expectorant that helps in treatment of bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, and several other common respiratory diseases. There are many other natural supplements used for this purpose, such as slippery elm, the licorice, and the fenugreek.

Research findings about non-smokers put the risk of getting cancer among those taking Vitamin E supplements at 50 percent less than those not taking it at all. The dosage normally recommended is 600 IU per day.

It is important to understand that some of these supplements may not work with certain therapies or for people with given medical conditions. As such, it is crucial that all the possible dietary additives are reviewed by a personal doctor before they can be used. The physicians can recommend which additives to use and the best dosage and which ones to avoid as not all can be appropriate.

The effectiveness of the natural substances largely depends on the health condition of the user and a properly selecting of the right substance. As such, the more information available about a particular product the better, as this promotes its proper usage. The internet is now the most common source of information, and should you choose this as the preferred method of gathering information, be sure to only use trusted and reliable websites.
